As of March 1, 2014, I have 380,000+ actual miles. This truck is 4 wheel drive, 4.2 liter straight 6, manual choke, 5 speed manual tranny, 33x10.5x15 BF Goodrich tires, Man-A-Fre tuned ceramic-coated header, Old Man Emu 2.5" Lifted Heavy Duty Suspension and shocks, Kenwood-Sirius Satellite Radio, Cobra CB radio, custom bumpers by Gary Coberly, weighs 5000+ lbs., gets 14.2 mpg w/85% highway driviing, which is pretty good for this truck with a tractor engine. I get that "good" of gas mileage because of regular tuneups, tall tires, and the 5 speed. I have added rock sliders, a Safari roof rack, and a rear tires and gas can carrier to the back bumper. I bought this vehicle in January of 1987 from the original owner when it had only 30,000 miles on it. It was only a little over 1 year old because it was built in September '85. This truck was my only vehicle for daily driver for 22 years. I never had to do one single thing to it until it had 112,000 miles on it. Since then it has required a lot of maintenance. See below for details.Of all the accessories I have bought for this old truck was my 2010 Prius. Finally I have a daily driver that will help me afford to buy gas for my Land Cruiser, and also help me to keep from wearing her out too soon. I have named my Land Cruiser "Precious", because I treat her so well, and spend so much money on her. I
have taken Precious to Santa Fe, NM twice, to South Texas several times, and
to the Ozarks in Arkansa 7 times, to the hill country countless times,
to the annual off-road Roundup in Katemcy,TX 4 times. But by far this
trucks greatest adventures have been on its 3 trips the the Maze District in
Canyonlands National Park Utah. Each trip means10 days of expedition style off roading/camping. April of 2014 I took her to Big Bend Ranch State Park for some mild off roading and camping with friends. I plan on keeping it forever and taking it on many more road trips, like Big Bend, & the Copper Canyon. |

My mechanic from June 2002 to May 2005 was Mike Dajda of Dajda Do-Rite in North Richland Hill, TX 817-427-4857 I highly recommend him. In May 2005 Randy Suttles in Irving took care of this truck until April 2012. Randy has moved to California. I have started going back to Mike Dadja. I believe Mike is the most knowedgeable, and thorough Land Cruiser specialist mechanic in North Texas. He can be reached at (817) 427-4857. He is in North Richland Hills Texas. I have also been using John Yang of Eagle Riders in Irving 972-986-5056 I have often replaced things like starters, alternators, disc pads, etc. |
